Alexander Marchuk Tile & Renovation

The man who quotes the job is the man who tiles it.

Alexander Marchuk has been laying tile for 20 years. A bathroom he does on his own; on a whole house he brings help. Either way he is there every day, from tear-out to the last joint of grout.

Straight answers

Two things worth saying out loud.

Both of these come up eventually. Finding them out later feels like something was hidden, so they are here instead.

  1. 01

The tradesman has twenty years. The Canadian company is newer than that.

The business here opened in 2024, and that is the date on the Google listing. The trade behind it is two decades old: the same hands, a different country. Worth knowing which of the two numbers you are comparing with anyone else's.

  2. 02

His English is working English. Writing is better than phoning.

He speaks it well enough to run a site and to talk a job through on the floor. When it comes to the details of a quote, writing beats talking: nothing gets misheard and you still have it in front of you a week later. Russian and Ukrainian are native, and a good part of his work happens in them. So this site asks for photographs and a message instead of shouting “call now”. It prices a job better, and it is the honest way round here.

One trade, done all the way through.

A general contractor subcontracts the tile. Here the tile is the whole business, which means the demolition, the levelling, the waterproofing and the setting are one person's responsibility and there is nobody to point at.

  • He does the substrate himself

Tear-out, levelling, membrane. When one person owns the floor from the joists up, nobody gets to blame the layer underneath.

  • The quote is written, and it is the price

Scope written down before the work starts. Anything genuinely unforeseeable is raised when it is found, in writing, before it is done.

  • A tight radius, so dates hold

Four areas, all west. Jobs across the city get turned down rather than promised a start date that slips.

No site visit to get a number, and no sales call afterwards. If the budget is not right, you will know from the reply instead of from an afternoon off work.

What are you looking to have done?

Pick the closest one — you can add detail at the end.

Roughly how much area?

A guess is fine. It only has to be close enough to price.

Have you chosen the tile yet?

Either answer is normal — it changes the quote, not the welcome.

When would you want it started?

This is the answer that decides whether he can take the job.

Add a few photos

The room as it is today, and a wide shot if you can. This is what lets him price it properly without coming out. Optional, but the quote is much sharper with them.

Where should the quote go?

Written reply the same day. He will not call unless you ask him to.
